Sidewalk CPR brings training to the public

Approximately 230 people learned CPR or brushed up on their knowledge thanks to the “Sidewalk CPR” sessions organized in the mall’s courtyard area by Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center and the Ventura County Fire Department, who set up a dozen mannequins for lessons and handed out CPR information.CPR2

Participants were taught they can save someone by pushing “hard and fast” on the chest without mouth-to-mouth breathing. “What we’ve found is there’s at least six minutes worth of oxygen in the body after a person’s last breath,” said Norm Plott, battalion chief of Ventura County Fire Department’s Emergency Medical Services Division. “What’s really important is that you circulate the air that’s within the body’s cells until your fire department and your ambulance can get on scene.”
